We announced this week that King’s will be releasing a webcast recording of a choral service each and every day between now and July, in place of the choral services that would have taken place in the Chapel. King’s College recently closed to all but essential visitors in response to UK government advice.
The webcasts are taken from the Chapel’s archive of recordings dating back to 2013, when it first began broadcasting services of Evensong, Matins and Eucharist, as well as other events in the Chapel.
The Dean, the Revd Dr Stephen Cherry, explained in a recorded welcome that he hoped the daily broadcasts would give listeners the opportunity to build an hour of choral worship into the rhythm of their day, wherever they are.
“King’s College Chapel is in many ways no different from any other college, hospital or school chapel: our primary ministry is to the community of students, academics and staff that make up the College today, together with our school. But over the last century, we’ve found that what we offer to God as an expression of our collegiate life has the capacity to encourage, educate and inspire many people far beyond the confines of our rather small College community.”
A recording of a full choral service will be released each day at 17:30 UK time – the time that our weekday services usually begin – and will remain available for seven days. In addition, we will be releasing regular “Deeper Listens”, each of which will focus on a piece of music, together with appropriate prayers for our time.
